TEN MAGPIES

Privacy & cookies

The short version: we don't ask for your name, we don't have accounts and we don't sell anything about you. The ads on this site come from Google, and Google uses cookies to show them. You decide what you allow.

Who we are

Ten Magpies is a small news site at tenmagpies.com. For anything about your data, write to hello@tenmagpies.com.

What we collect ourselves

Almost nothing. There are no accounts, no comment boxes, no newsletter and no forms. If you email us, we use your address only to answer you, and we delete the conversation when it's no longer needed.

Advertising: Google AdSense

We show ads through Google AdSense, which pays for the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.

Google's advertising cookies let Google and its partners show you ads based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet. You can turn off personalised advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings. For other ad vendors you can use aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

Google explains what it does with this data here: How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Your choice in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland

The first time you visit, a consent message from Google asks whether you accept advertising cookies. If you say no, you may still see ads, but they won't be based on your browsing. You can change your mind any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page.

Other things the page loads

Our fonts come from Google Fonts, and some photos load directly from Unsplash and NASA. Like any website you open, these services see your IP address so they can send you the file. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps short technical logs to protect it from attacks.

What stays in your browser

We remember whether you prefer the light or the dark theme. That choice is saved only in your own browser and never reaches us.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what data is held about you, ask for it to be deleted, or object to its use. Write to us and we'll answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country (in Romania that's ANSPDCP).

Changes

If something here changes, we update this page and the date below.
