Cushions, candles, wall signs that say "Home Sweet Home": that's the Kirkland's world. And it keeps getting smaller.
What's closing
Several Kirkland's Home stores will close for good on December 27. The list includes Cordova in Tennessee, Southaven and Madison in Mississippi, Evansville in Indiana and Gainesville in Georgia. So shoppers get one last Christmas, and then the lights go off.
How it got here
Kirkland's started in Jackson, Tennessee, in 1966 and grew to more than 300 stores in 35 states. The last few years were hard. In February 2025 the company said about 19 of its 317 stores were not making enough money.
Then came a twist. In 2025 the owner, now called Brand House Collective, sold the Kirkland's Home name to Bed Bath & Beyond for $10 million. Yes, the same Bed Bath & Beyond that went bust itself and came back as an online brand.
The numbers kept sliding. In one quarter last year sales fell more than 9.5%, and online sales dropped 34.6%.
What it means for you
If you have a gift card, use it now. Closing stores usually run big sales in the final weeks, so the decor bargain hunters will be busy. And if your local store is not on the list yet, it is worth keeping an eye on the news.
Home decor is the first thing people cut when money is tight. A new throw pillow can wait. The heating bill can't.
